It’s time to dump Molly and jazz yourself with your favorite color of Johnnie on the rocks because in pop culture and dance, it doesn’t get any smoother than Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s long awaited album ‘Random Access Memories’. ‘R.A.M.’ takes you to familiar territories, most resembling ‘Discovery’ but it spreads apart from all their previous work at the same time. Perhaps this is because every instrument was recorded live rather than the duo sampling everything, an audiophiles dream come true.
‘R.A.M.’ almost feels like Pink Floyd dancing with a meloncholy robot at times and that’s not a bad thing because it gives ‘R.A.M.’ a powerful emotion that makes our favorite robots feel very human. Perhaps that is the overall experience of Daft Punk’s music over the years? A tale of two robots becoming human; a modern tale of Pinnochio through music. ‘R.A.M.’ is a freak science project of beautiful noise demonstrated by warm-hearty analog sounds in an all out attention to detail production that would even make Einstein blush.
Listening to the album with headphones is digging for ear gold with the assemblings of rich guitar tones, colorful vocals, sizzlingly-sharp percussions, well arranged orchestrals, and a surprisingly subtle offerings of the synth.
All in all, ‘Random Access Memories’ will bore the hell out of “The Teenage Mutant Neon-Glowing Candy-Kids” or whatever they are called and that is fine with me since ‘R.A.M.’ separates Daft Punk from acts like Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, and whomever is taking over the latest circuit of dance music trends. Good riddance. However don’t expect “in your face” ground-breaking dance music since most of the album is a slow jam of sorts. ‘R.A.M.’ is like an oxy-moron of an album but it all works to the eleventh degree. Whatever that may mean to you, just pop in the album, soak in the charm of Daft Punk’s sound, and as my roommate says, it’s “spooky-funkasauras”. Kudos and happy listening.

I am so proud of our friends in Krewella. They have really come a long way since we booked them for our parties before anyone else did (years ago actually). Now they’re touring the world and playing with some of the biggest names in the industry at premier night clubs and some of the biggest music festivals around. Krewella dropped their first EP ‘Play Hard’ and you can listen to it in its entirety below. Make sure to purchase the entire album at Beatport here!
I just want to note as a fellow music producer and friend, big ups to Kris aka Rainman or BLUBLKR. He really took his production to a new level with Krewella. He can be very versatile with his style, ranging from pop, hip hop, electro, house, moombah, and of course dubstep. Starting out as a kid in a metal/garage band in high school, Kris mastered his production skills in EDM since starting out in his basement apartment back in mid 2000’s. Thank you Kris for pushing the boundaries here in Chicago and the rest of the world! Big ups my friend!
You know summer has arrived when songs like “Stop Drop & Roll” by Ghosthouse comes out. It’s my jam of the summer, it’s official! Ghosthouse is a Chicago band made of Chuck New, Jimmy Con, and Dylan Hyde Castle. Their sound is the product of Prince and Chromeo having a musical orgy but with Chicago flavoring that adds extra funkiness to it. If you missed their epic set at North Coast last summer then you can definitely catch Ghosthouse at Wave Front Music Festival this summer at Montrose Beach.
Dani Deahl has been a busy girl lately. She dropped her single “Diplo Hates You” and now has a new single on its way with Sue Cho titled “Pocket Porn”. OneBeat.tv followed Dani around in California and put together this awesome documentary on how she came up with “Diplo Hates You”. The short documentary also focuses on the making of the music video and how Dani began DJing. OneBeat also attached the “Diplo Hates You” music video at the end of the documentary so make sure to stay tuned in as it features Oh Snap!, Diplo himself, and Pete Wentz of FallOutBoy.

Is it hilarious, stupid, or plain awesome? Not sure if this video is real, but it is Gaslamp Killer with mixing and mastering credits from Grant Cornish. Looks legit but who knows, this is too crazy that we had to list it under the WTF? section! Enjoy!
